The restaurant will be the first UK outpost for the Pizzeria Mozza brand.
US chef Nancy Silverton will be opening her first UK restaurant at the Treehouse Hotel London near Oxford Circus next month.
The restaurant will be the first UK outpost for the Pizzeria Mozza brand, which she co-owns as well as the Michelin-starred Osteria Mozza, Chi Spacca and La Brea Bakery, all in Los Angeles.
Pizzeria Mozza will be the latest addition to Treehouse Hotel London’s food and beverage offering, alongside Madera, the Nest and Backyard, and will be located adjacent to the hotel on the ground floor on Regent Street.
Winner of the James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding Chef Award in 2014, Silverton also starred on Netflix docuseries Chef’s Table and is the author of nine cookbooks.
Pizzeria Mozza and Osteria Mozza in LA are co-owned by Silverton and Joe Bastianich, and Bastianich will also be a partner in the London project, overseeing the drinks list, which will be made up of his own wines as well as Italian wines that are certified organic, sustainable or vegan. He won the James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding Wine and Spirits Professional Award.
As well as pizzas, the menu will have a selection of meat and fish dishes using British, seasonal produce. Antipasti will include salt cod fritti; shrimp with melon, mint and chilli lime vinaigrette; and squash blossoms fritti with ricotta. The menu will also offer traditional Italian-inspired salads and locally sourced salamis and mozzarella.
On weekends, Italian-inspired brunch dishes will include torta rustica with bacon, potatoes, caramelised onions, thyme and fontina; brisket or oxtail hash al forno; and two olive oil fried eggs, pork sausage, roasted tomato and fried ceci (chickpeas).
The menu will also be available to take away and Silverton’s ice-cream brand ‘Nancy’s Fancy’ will be available for dessert or to grab and go.
London-based Ward & Gray will design the restaurant to look like a Mediterranean garden with planting and trees and trailing vines, as well as terracotta tiled floors, glass lighting by Venetian glass blower Sogni di Cristallo and iron garden chairs from Milanese furniture maker Soto.
Treehouse Hotels is the ‘little sibling’ brand of 1 Hotels, both of which have a strong focus on sustainability. The 95-bedroom London hotel opened in 2019 following the refurbishment of what used to be the Saint Georges hotel. It was the first Treehouse hotel for US private investment company Starwood Capital and is a collaboration between Starwood and Cairn Group, which owns and operates 33 hotels in the UK. SH Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Starwood, manages the hotel.
Silverton said: “Opening here at the Treehouse in Marylebone is like a wonderful homecoming for me… In 1977, 44 years ago, I was a student at London’s revered Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, mere blocks away on Marylebone Lane and now I am back with my Pizzeria Mozza. It just feels right and I am determined to make my alma mater proud of their former student. (Let’s just keep that 44 years apart between you and me.)”
Ayo Akinsete, area managing director of SH Hotels & Resorts, said: “It is our great privilege to be finally opening Pizzeria Mozza in London with Nancy – we have known each other for a long time now, and this has been years in the making. After all that our industry has been through over the past year, opening a new restaurant feels more exciting than ever, and we cannot wait to get our first guests through the door.”
Matt Erickson, president of food and beverage at SH Hotels & Resorts, added: “In LA, both Pizzeria Mozza and Nancy are extremely popular and their success is unparalleled. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Nancy and this amazing brand over the pond to our guests in London.”
