More than 13,000 petition Brassica boss to pay ex-workers

More than 13,000 people have signed a petition calling on the co-owner of Brassica restaurant in Dundee to pay his ex-employees nearly £30,000 in unpaid tips and wages.

Brassica, which is registered as Tayone Food on Companies House and owned by Rami Sarraf and Dea Gill, fell into administration last month.

The restaurant's 24 former employees say they were owed six weeks' wages when they were made redundant and are owed £28,721 in wages, holiday pay and notice. The group have been staging protests at the site since last month.

Sarraf is understood to be planning to open a new restaurant, Brasserie Ecosse, on the same premises.

“We have now been told by that same Insolvency Service that they haven’t been sent the documents required to progress their claim including contracts and payslips, meaning that they may not get their unpaid wages before Christmas. We would urge Mr Sarraf to do the right thing by his former staff and pay them their tips and send the documents needed to process their claim.”

Police Scotland confirmed it is aware of a complaint by Sarraf relating to the conduct of his business partner.

Dundee City Council, the landlord of the site, declined to comment.
