Darren Sweetland is to return to Soho house as chief financial officer with former Citizen M chief hotel operating officer taking responsibility of Mollie’s
Mollie’s has appointed Matt Bell to the role of managing director, replacing Darren Sweetland, who has left the business to join Soho House.
The motel and diner group, with outposts in Bristol, Oxfordshire and a planned opening in Manchester this year, was launched under the Soho House brand umbrella, but spun-off as an independent entity in 2021.
Sweetland will now become chief financial officer for UK, Europe and Asia at the motel group’s former owners, having previously been EMEA finance director of Soho House, with Bell stepping into his shoes at Mollie’s.
Bell (pictured) joins from CitizenM, where he was chief hotel operating officer responsible for more than 30 properties worldwide. Prior to that he held a leadership role at the Hospital Club and was general manager at Seaham Hall hotel in County Durham.
Mollie’s chief executive David Elghanayan said: "We are thrilled to welcome Matt to Mollie’s. His proven track record in scaling operations, driving guest satisfaction and leading sustainability initiatives makes him the ideal leader to help shape the future of Mollie’s.
“As we continue to grow and redefine the affordable luxury market, Matt’s expertise and strategic mindset will be invaluable."
Bell said that Mollie’s was a brand he had “admired since its inception”.
He added: “It perfectly embodies my passion for creating unforgettable guest experiences through genuine connections and fostering a culture of sustainability and innovation.
“This year will see the opening of the first city centre Mollies as part of the redevelopment of the Old Granada Studios in Manchester, an exciting time in the evolution of the Mollie’s brand. I look forward to bringing my experience and expertise to build on the amazing work the team has already accomplished, and support Mollie’s in reaching its ambitious goals.”
