Michelin awards three stars to Mirazur and Le Clos des Sens in French 2019 guide

Michelin has awarded its top accolade of three stars to two restaurants in the 2019 edition of the French guide.

Mauro Colagreco's Mirazur, which opened on the Côte D'Azur in 2006, received its third star after having retained two since 2012. The other top award was made to Laurent Petit's Le Clos de Sens in Annecy-le-Vieux, which is also one of the Grandes Tables du Monde.

In total the guide awarded 68 new one-star titles in the guide, and five new two star restaurants. Of those recognised, 11 of the kitchens were led by women including Stephanie Le Quellec's La Scene (two stars), Nolwenn Corre's Hostellerie de la Pointe Saint-Mathieu (one star) and Naoëlle D'Hainaut's L'Or Q'idée (one star).

As was seen in the Great British and Irish guide of 2019, the French edition also has reached out to embrace cusines not regularly recognised by the red book. Chatchai Klanklong's L'Orchidée - which fuses international elements with a Thai core - received one star while Indra Carillo Perea's La Condensa - named after a district of Mexico, pulls on global influences in a French gastronomic style. Sébastien Vauxion's Sarkara meanwhile became the first restaurant to receive a star in France while only offering desserts.
