Westin, the Marriott International-owned brand that is focused on wellness, is to enter the UK with the launch of a 220-bedroom hotel in the City of London.
The Westin London City will open in a location overlooking the River Thames in 2020. Owned by privately-owned hotel development company 4C Hotel Group, it will be managed by RBH, which has recently been rebranded from Redefine|BDL.
The hotel will form a key part of the redevelopment of the former Queensbridge House site and will complete the northern riverbank walkway between the Tower of London and Millennium Bridge.
Designed by British architects Dexter Moren Associates, it will feature an open and airy atrium, with a lobby leading onto a riverside bar and restaurant with views towards Shakespeare's Globe and the South Bank.
The hotel will also have an indoor swimming pool, spa, fitness studio, ballroom, four meeting rooms and business centre.
Brian Povinelli, senior vice-president and global brand leader at Westin Hotels & Resorts, said: "Transforming the way travellers experience wellness continues to be a powerful proposition for Westin, and one that has become increasingly important as people integrate well-being more holistically into their lifestyle."
John Licence, vice-president, premium and select brands at Marriott International Europe, described the new City of London hotel as "an exciting chapter" for the Westin brand. "It is clear that there is a strong appetite for the brand's wellness positioning, innovative programming and premium accommodations. With its commanding riverfront location in the commercial and historic heart of the City of London, The Westin London City is sure to offer a reviving and memorable stay for guests in one of the world's most dynamic cities."
Westin Hotels & Resorts was previously owned by Starwood Hotels & Resorts which itself was bought by Marriott International in 2016 to create the world's largest hotel company with a total of 30 brands.
The 4C Hotel Group is made up of a portfolio of 15 properties, operating under a variety of global brands, in the UK, Canada, East Africa and the Middle East. Its UK hotels include the first in the country to be operated under Hilton's lifestyle Canopy brand, which is set to open this year in Aldgate in the City of London.
