Mark Greenaway is to open a takeaway pie and mash shop in London on 12 April.
The Scottish chef has taken the former Wrap It Up site at 45 Villiers Street near Embankment for the project.
Greenaway’s Pie & Mash will use traditional Scotch pie pastry shells for the base, with fillings such as chicken, mushroom and tarragon; beef short rib and pearl onion; and butternut squash, goat’s cheese and spinach. Desserts include apple pie with cream and custard.
The pies will be available from the shop, on Deliveroo and to cook at home from frozen.
The chef is also preparing to open his first full-service restaurant in London this year, which will seat 30 covers and feature dishes from his time on Great British Menu.
Greenaway said: “Opening a pie and mash shop is not something I would have thought about doing a year ago. However, living and learning the culture here in London during lockdown has pivoted my thinking and almost excited me to look for other opportunities ahead of my signature restaurant opening In the summer.”
During the pandemic Greenaway has run a London pop-up with the Gentleman Baristas in the former Wahlburgers site in Covent Garden.
The chef also oversees Grazing by Mark Greenaway at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh, which took over the Galvin Brothers site in 2019, and ran Restaurant Mark Greenaway in Edinburgh, which was recommended in the Michelin guide and won three AA rosettes for five years until 2018.
