Mare Street Market open in Hackney

Mare Street Market has opened in London's Hackney including three dining spots curated by Gizzi Erskine.

The market features a deli and off-licence, an open kitchen, as well as the 50-cover Dining Room brasserie with a wood-fired produce-led menu. Executive chef Tim Mawn, previously an executive chef with Caprice holdings, is overseeing the project, and Erskine has appointed Phil Smith, formerly of head chef of Bibendum, as head chef.

Created by Marc Francis-Baum, behind the Barworks collection of east London pubs, the market also features a Flying Horse Coffee shop, Rebel Rebel florist, and a podcast studio.

Baum said: "Mare Street Market has been a complete labour of love for myself and our amazing team. From finding the space over four years ago, to assembling a group of collaborators and partners to open the doors this month; we are thrilled to have repurposed this drab former job centre into something for the whole community to enjoy."

Partner and creative director Erskine said: "As a Hackney resident, I've invested many years in forging relationships with some of the best producers in Hackney, and it's terrific to finally be able to host all of the talent under one roof."
