M Restaurants launches pop-up to help tackle modern slavery

M Restaurants is to run a series of pop-up nights in March to raise awareness and cash to help battle modern slavery.

The restaurant group's founder Martin Williams was inspired to act after a trip to Amsterdam and will set up a temporary restaurant inside M Victoria to support Not For Sale organisation, with all profits donated to the charity.

Williams said: “After being introduced to David Batstone [from Not for Sale] by William Kim the CEO of All Saints; I visited Amsterdam to see Dignita, a restaurant which is part of the ‘Not For Sale’ programme. I also went to the Red Light District and saw for myself the sickening enslaved prostitutes who stand in the windows. I learnt how Dignita helps provide an alternative â€" working in a restaurant instead of being a sex worker. I determined that we had to make a contribution and was inspired to create ‘M is not for Sale’.”

He said that by supporting the M is not for sale pop-up guests were part of a virtuous circle “knowing that the profits from the menu will support a self-sustaining social project that uses the restaurant business as a mechanism to end sex trafficking and modern slavery”.
