A major expansion of the London exhibition centre is due to open soon.
Levy UK and Ireland has signed a new multimillion-pound deal with Excel London as the events centre prepares for a 25,000 sq m expansion.
Levy, the sports, entertainment and events arm of Compass Group UK & Ireland, has been Excel’s food and beverage partner since it opened in 2000 and caters for over 400 events and four million annual visitors.
Both companies extended the catering contract for a further 22 years in 2023.
As part of the new deal, Levy has created a dining experience for Excel’s new-look waterfront entertainment district, Immerse LDN, named the Waterfront Street Kitchen and Bar.
This will offer a menu inspired by street food from across the world and cater for both Excel visitors and residents across London’s Royal Docks.
It is designed to add value to the wider events business by featuring a bespoke space for meetings, exhibitor parties and corporate events.
Excel’s expanded site, which is due to open soon, will include an additional ICC convention centre with exhibition halls and conference rooms that will see it become Europe’s largest fully integrated conference and exhibition venue.
In addition, Levy will expand its in-venue food and beverage offer alongside Excel’s upcoming 25,000 sqm, offering extras such as carbon food labelling, 50% plant-based menus, and 100% recyclable or reusable packaging.
Levy have already introduced the ‘checkout-free’ store Market Express – a first for UK event venues – and touch screen ordering systems in several outlets.
Excel’s chief commercial officer Simon Mills said: “This reinforced strategic partnership further cements our long-term investment and commitment to London’s event industry, particular as Excel begins an exciting new chapter with the opening of our new waterfront, Immerse LDN and of course our forthcoming expansion.”
Jon Davies, chief executive at Levy, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be part of this exciting phase of Excel’s history, where it is set to become the UK’s largest immersive entertainment district and Europe’s largest fully integrated conference and exhibition venue.
“The continuation of our long-standing partnership allows us to push the boundaries of innovation in food, technology and sustainability, while delivering exceptional experiences.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
