Machrie hotel
The Machrie hotel and golf links has reopened on the Isle of Islay in the Inner Hebrides, following a complete renovation, including a contemporary extension and refurbishment of the original Victorian building. Some of the 47 guest rooms, suites and lodges have their own kitchens and outdoor terraces, while much of the furniture and many of the fittings have been specially designed and made in Scotland.
The restaurant, overlooking the golf course and sea, will use locally sourced ingredients, while most of the bar's whiskies come from Islay distilleries. The hotel also has a Courtyard lounge, snug, Stag lounge, and spa with two treatment rooms, sauna and gym.
The 18-hole golf course has been modernised by former European Tour player and Ryder Cup vice-captain David J Russell. Highly placed in Scottish and UK rankings, the Machrie links combines a traditional, historic links course with a modern layout and green complexes.
