Just one week until entries close to celebrate your venue’s kitchen porter.
There is only one week to go to nominate for the Kitchen Porter (KP) of the Year 2024.
Entries have to be submitted here before midnight on Friday 30 August, so don’t miss your chance to recognise your KP’s hard graft throughout the year.
The competition, organised by The Caterer in partnership with warewasher specialist Winterhalter, is free to enter and simply requires answering a few questions. You can nominate as many KPs as you like, and the competition is open to every sector of the hospitality industry – whether your nominee works for a tiny cafe or a catering giant.
The winner will receive a prize package that includes the coveted KP of the Year trophy, a piece of Winterhalter kit worth up to £10,000 for the winning KP’s employer, £1,000 in vouchers and a celebratory meal with friends and family in a casual dining restaurant of the KP’s choice.
The winning KP’s triumph will also be immortalised in the KP of the Year website’s hall of fame, gaining them further deserved plaudits.
Ten KPs are selected for the shortlist before the winning KP is chosen by an expert judging panel.
Plus, every KP put forward will receive a KP of the Year bespoke Oliver Hardy apron from Winterhalter UK and three highly commended KPs will also receive vouchers to spend on hospitality experiences.
Last year’s victor was Alex Maphalala (pictured), a KP from BaxterStorey working at the Health Services Laboratories in London. He was recognised for his work supporting staff by promoting a healthy and happy working environment and prioritising mental health and wellbeing, as well as regularly collaborating with the head chef to repurpose food waste into different soups and broths.
He said: “The awarded provided an opportunity to network with chefs, managers and other industry professionals to support my career development. In addition, to validating my pride in my job and the industry I work in.”
