The trio behind London’s Salon and Levan has announced it will open all-day restaurant Larry’s in Peckham at the end of July.
Nicholas Balfe, Mark Gurney and Matt Bushnell will open the doors to Larry's, which is located next door to Levan, on 31 July. It will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with menus taking inspiration from the corner bars, diners and cafés of New York.
As with its next-door restaurant Levan, Larry’s is named after 1970s dance music pioneer and DJ Larry Levan. It will be open late into the night, playing music from a vintage sound system and serve breakfasts including lox and potato latkes, a lunch menu of deli-style sandwiches, Larry’s take on a Waldorf salad with poached pear, and sharing plates such as devilled crab, brown crab mayo, pickled fennel and bruschetta for dinner.
The wine list will favour a “dynamic, lean and constantly changing” offering of two wines of each white, red, orange, rosé, and sparkling, and include guest wines from “low-intervention winemakers”.
Balfe said: “Larry’s is somewhere we’d expect Larry Levan to go to after playing one of his sets. We’ve cherry-picked everything we love about eating in New York and combined them into the kind of place we would want in our neighbourhood.”
Gurney added that Larry’s would be “a naughty little brother to Levan”, offering a relaxed and informal vibe. “It’s the perfect spot for any occasion – a quick lunch, a glass of something natural and a bite to eat, or a leisurely dinner with friends.”
In keeping with the 1970s theme, the interior, designed by Dundry & Ducker, will feature tables topped with orange laminate, banquettes, reclaimed green Eames chairs and a central marble bench used for pastries and baked goods, rolling pasta, and communal dining in the evenings.
