Langan’s Brasserie to reopen in October

Renowned London restaurant Langan’s Brasserie in Mayfair has confirmed a mid-October reopening following a refurbishment by interior designer Peter Mikic in collaboration with Fettle Design.

Graphic designer, Annie Atkins, who specialises in design for cinema, has been the driving force behind the visual concept.

When it reopens, the venue will have a bar with a wall of bottles that stretches up to the ceiling, a raw bar and the Langan’s Club lounge upstairs for members, where regular events will be held.

The relaunch is being overseen by chief executive Graziano Arricale, former operations director at Richard Caring's Birley Clubs and head of the Chucs food and beverage operating team, and managing director James Hitchen, founder and former chief executive of East Coast Concepts.

Arricale and Hitchen said in a statement: “We are so proud to be bringing the new and reimagined Langan's Brasserie to London. We look forward to creating a real hub for the locals of Mayfair along with those from the worlds of fashion, art, film and music to help us bring Langan’s back to its rightful place at the centre of Mayfair.”

Founded by Irish restaurateur Peter Langan in 1976 in partnership with actor Sir Michael Caine and former head chef of the Capital hotel, Richard Shepherd, Langan's redefined the London dining scene in the 1970s and 80s and was frequented by the likes of Princess Margaret, Elizabeth Taylor, Muhammed Ali, Mick Jagger and Elton John.

With a reputation for eccentricity and raucousness, stories abound of an inebriated Peter Langan nibbling guests' ankles, expelling those deemed too ‘boring', and even extinguishing a kitchen fire with a vintage Champagne. Langan died tragically in a fire in 1988 and Shepherd bought out Caine's share of the business in 1999, before selling his shares in 2012.

Oakley Capital founder and managing partner Peter Dubens was understood to be privately backing the relaunch.
