The Swan hotel in Newby Bridge, Cumbria, has secured a £7m investment, backed by CBRE Global Investors, to transform the boutique Lake District hotel into a luxury spa resort by summer 2021.
The investment will fund plans to extend the four-AA-star, 58-bedroom hotel (including cottages), with the new build set to house 30 additional bedrooms. Interiors will be designed by Fiona Parks of Johnston Parke Interiors.
The investment will also facilitate a luxury spa development, with plans for a hydrotherapy pool, thermal rooms, relaxation areas, and treatment rooms, in addition to the existing swimming pool. The spa will also house a café, serving Champagne, cake and other refreshments.
The Swan is recruiting for 20 new full-time and part-time jobs, in addition to launching an apprenticeship programme.
Yorkshire-based property development and hotel group BH Group recently acquired the Swan as well as owning St Michaels Resort in Cornwall, Manchester’s Hotel Indigo and the Hampton by Hilton Blackpool. The group is also looking to further expand its portfolio of hotels, in particular its luxury resort portfolio.
James Houlston, BH Group managing director, said: “The Swan is an established favourite in the Lakes, this investment really gives us the opportunity to build on its success so it can reach its full potential as a world-class spa resort. The proposed extension will really take the hotel to the next level, so that we can deliver that ultimate top class, luxury experience.”
Managing director of the Swan, Sarah Gibbs, added: “We can’t wait for the renovations to get under way, we have some incredible plans and I think guests are going to be blown away when we get to reveal it all next year.”
