Knut Wylde is to leave the Berkeley after a decade with Maybourne hotel group.

He will leave his role in August having overseen this year’s opening of the Berkeley’s all suite sister hotel the Emory and its wellbeing members club Surenne.

Wylde joined Maybourne as hotel manager at Claridge’s in 2014 before moving to the Berkeley as general manager in 2016.

He has presided over the refurbishment of the Berkeley and, most recently, also led the development of the 61 suite Emory hotel, which is situated next door to its parent property.

Wylde told The Caterer: “It is very much a bittersweet moment, however I have decided that it is time to move on after over 10 amazing years within Maybourne.

“I achieved what I set out to achieve; having overseen the refurbishment of the Berkeley which started in 2016 and repositioned it as one of the leading five-star hotels in London and then project managing, opening and positioning the Emory and Surrenne. I felt the time is right for me to challenge myself and move on to something new.”

Maybourne chief operating officer Roland Fasel praised Wydle for having been “a truly valued member of our team as well as a great friend and mentor to many”.

He said: “On behalf of the group, I sincerely thank Knut for his dedication to Maybourne and we all wish him great happiness and continued success in the future.”

Wylde added that he was “grateful for the opportunities and trust put in me by the Maybourne senior executive team”.

He added: “I have been exceedingly lucky to be surrounded by the best team of hospitality professionals one can wish for and I am so proud of what we achieved together over the last decade. I will cherish and look back at the last 10 years with much fondness.”

Wylde said he would take some time to consider his options before announcing his next move.
