Scotland’s other national drink has provided inspiration for many creatives over the years, and now Brakes has joined them with the launch of an Irn Bru-inspired cheesecake.

 

The Iron Brew cheesecake takes on the flavour of its fizzing counterpart – whatever that flavour is – along with its fluorescent Donald Trump-esque hue.

 

Brakes has described the product as “unique”, adding that it will add a “unusual aspect of provenance to a dessert menu”, but I’m not sure it’s going to get this rat racing up the M1.

 

 

###Dishrags to riches

 

Chef Gary Usher, founder of Elite Bistros and all-round Twitter joker, told his followers he “couldn’t be friends” with anyone who hung their dishcloth on their tap for hygiene reasons last week.

 

But the lighthearted debate that followed clearly wasn’t quite what the Daily Mail had been looking for, and it instead reported that the chef had “slammed” those who disagreed getting caught in a “storm of tweets”.

 

After squirming through the paper’s comment section, this rat can confirm that Mail readers are more likely to be pro-“hanging my towels, tea or hand, wherever I want”, and anti-Usher’s tattoos. It’s good to know personal freedom is a good thing when it comes to kitchen hygiene and a bad thing when it comes to the people actually staffing them.

 

 

###A bit steep

 

Budding hotel owners concerned that taking on their own property will leave them little opportunity for daily exercise might like to consider putting in an offer for Castle Cottage in Harlech, Gwynedd.

 

The seven-bedroom hotel (below), which has been awarded five stars by Visit Wales, is located at the top of Ffordd Pen Llech, which has just been confirmed by Guinness World Records as the steepest street on the globe. With a gradient of 37.45%, the road has taken the title from Baldwin Street (just 35% at its steepest) in Dunedin, New Zealand, much to the annoyance of the locals Down Under.

 

 

Castle Cottage is now on the market off a guide price of £645,000 with property agent Fleurets, as current owners Glyn and Jacqueline Roberts look to retire. The hotel will enable any new owner the chance to enjoy a HIIT workout on their daily commute to work.
