KFC restaurant in Notting Hill employed illegal workers

A Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurant in Notting Hill, London, could lose its late night refreshments licence for employing three illegal workers.

 

Immigration officers visited the restaurant at 44 Notting Hill Gate on 28 April to find staff in breach of their immigration status.

 

Three employees were detained and arrested for landing breaches including a deputy manager who had overstayed his visa. He is due to be deported.

 

The application for the review of the premises states: "It's apparent that the manager knowingly employed a person who was not permitted to work, even when presented with documentation ignored the applicant's status."

 

Kensington and Chelsea council will review the fast food restaurant's licence on Thursday 29 June at 10am in Kensington Town Hall.

 

If the licence is not revoked, the restaurant - which is currently operational until 5am - will be advised to close at midnight.

 

The licence review application also outlines the following conditions: the premises shall install CCTV cameras, hire door staff to monitor the doors from 11pm Monday to Sunday and keep a written record of hours worked by employees, paid or unpaid.

 

The licence holder will also be trained in Home Office requirements and Home Office Guidance for employers on the right to work.

 

A spokesperson from KFC said: "We were disappointed to learn of these allegations that have been made against our franchise partner. We will work hard to ensure that lessons are learned."
