KFC reprimanded by Advertising Standards Agency over junk food advertising

KFC has been reprimanded by the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) for breaking rules around the targeting of children with adverts for products with a high fat, salt or sugar content.

A poster for a Mars Krushems drink featuring an image of the beverage next to a Mars Bar under the words "fingerlickin' cool' had been displayed on a phone box a short distance from a primary school.

The Obesity Health Alliance had flagged the advert arguing it was being aimed at children.

KFC has said the advert was mistakenly placed within 100m of the school and apologised.

The advert was removed by the fast-food company on the day the ASA drew its attention to the error.

Adverts for products high in fat, salt or sugar must not appear, through any medium, in a context where more than 25% of the audience will be under the age of 16.

Kellogg's has also been reprimanded after it was found to have promoted a Coco Pops product during a Mr Bean cartoon.
