Ken McCulloch receives honorary degree from Glasgow Caledonian University

Former Hotelier of the Year Ken McCulloch has been awarded an honorary degree by Glasgow Caledonian University.

He was presented with the accolade for being at the forefront of hospitality trends for nearly five decades, during which he has created a raft of hotel brands from the independent One Devonshire Gardens in 1986 to Malmaison in 1994 and Dakota in 2006.

The university said that McCulloch has “continually achieved critical acclaim for his meticulous attention to detail, dedication to service and focus on customer indulgence”.

McCulloch, who was named Hotelier of the Year by The Caterer in 1993 for his success in creating a flamboyant and luxurious experience at One Devonshire Gardens, is today focused on the expansion of the Dakota chain, in partnership with Evans Property Group.

Dakota has two hotels in Glasgow and one each in Edinburgh, Leeds and Manchester.

McCulloch received his degree from Professor John Lennon, dean, Glasgow School for Business and Society, and director of the Moffat Centre for Travel and Tourism.
