John Burton Race to reopen his Michelin-starred restaurant in Devon

Celebrity chef John Burton Race is to reopen his Michelin-starred restaurant in Devon next month after it was bought by a millionaire entrepreneur.

The New Angel in Dartmouth was famously closed by the chef's wife Kim while he was appearing on ITV's I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! in November. It later collapsed into administration.

The eaterie has now been bought by Clive Jacobs, who backed Burton Race when he was at L'Ortolan in Berkshire.

It is thought that the New Angel bed and breakfast rooms are still on the market for around £700,000 and that the chef needs to sell them to clear his debts of £181,000.

"Once the rooms are sold everyone is going to be paid back in full, I'm certainly not insolvent," Burton Race told the Press Association.

"I am more than excited about the prospect. It has been a lot of hard work, we are doing 12-hour days because we haven't got a lot of time but it's a brilliant feeling."

Burton Race and his wife bought the New Angel in 2004 and gained a Michelin star the following year. He left Kim, his wife of 11 years, a mother of six, for Suzie Ward, 40, and their three-year-old son last March.
