Pub giant JD Wetherspoon is to celebrate Brexit by reducing the price of 10 European drinks from Friday 31 January, the day the UK will formally leave the European Union (EU).
The group, whose chairman Tim Martin is a vocal long-term Brexit supporter, has dubbed the promotion ‘let’s stay friends’.
It will see the price of drinks from countries including Germany, France, Spain, Poland, Holland and Ireland, as well as the UK, cut by 60p.
Running until 29 February, the offer extends across JD Wetherspoon's 870 pubs and applies to drinks including Estrella Galicia (Spain), Beck’s (Germany), Peroni (Italy) Tyskie (Poland) Jameson Irish Whiskey (Republic of Ireland) and Grey Goose Vodka (France).
Martin said: “Many of our customers are keen to celebrate Brexit. At the same time we want to remain friends with our European neighbours and offer a range of drinks at an excellent price.”
The promotion will see a bottle of Becks or pint of Ruddles ale sold for just £1.49 at 700 JD Wetherspoon pubs.
Martin has urged negotiators to abolish tariffs on imports as part of EU negotiations.
