Jamie Oliver takes American diner concept to Gatwick Airport

Jamie Oliver has opened a branch of his American-themed restaurant the Diner at Gatwick Airport's South Terminal.

It is the second site for the brand, joining the original the Diner on Shaftesbury Avenue, London.

The 627 sq m restaurant can serve up to 278 covers and is divided into three areas: a restaurant serving food on big trays or in baskets, an art-deco inspired bar and a grab-and-go deli.

The menu is focused on American-comfort food, with dishes ranging from Jamie's insanity burger, featuring a bourbon sauce and Sparkenhoe cheese; to a super corn and quinoa salad with avocado, mango, tomatoes crispy maple bacon and garlicky lime dressing.

Take-away items include a superfood wrap, superfood salad and a burrito with a choice of pulled, smoked meats, slow-cooked beans, wholegrain rice or quinoa, avocado, low-fat yogurt or chilli sauce for the filling.

Jamie Oliver said he was "chuffed" about the new restaurant, which he intended will "up the game" in airport food. "There's plenty of delicious healthy dishes, as well as some naughty ones that I've tried my best to keep in check, but each one is guaranteed to taste delicious!"

Gatwick Airport's head of retail, Rachel Bulford, added: "We are excited to be continuing the long-established relationship between Jamie Oliver and Gatwick Airport; Jamie opened his first ever airport restaurant here at Gatwick in 2012 which is still the only UK airport branch."

As well as the Diner, Jamie Oliver's restaurant portfolio include 36 Jamie's Italian sites, Barbecoa in St Paul's and Piccadilly in London, and Jamie Oliver's Fifteen in London and Westgate Bay, Cornwall. The Diner in Gatwick's South Terminal is the second Jamie Oliver restaurant at the airport, joining Jamie's Italian, which opened in the North Terminal in 2012.
