Alvaro Rey has left his role as general manager of the InterContinental Park Lane hotel in London’s Mayfair after 11 years.
A spokesperson for the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) said: “Alvaro Rey joined IHG in 1984 and has gone on to be one of our most successful general managers. Alvaro has decided it’s now time to move on to his next challenge. He leaves a very strong leadership team in place at InterContinental Park Lane.”
Replacing Roland Fasel, Rey joined the property, which has 449 bedrooms and 71 suites, from the InterContinental Sydney in Australia in 2009. The InterContinental Park Lane is currently closed along with most UK hotels, in accordance with government guidance due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Rey began his career at InterContinental Medellin in 1984 in his native Colombia as an assistant food and beverage manager, after training at Les Roches in Switzerland.
During his time with the company, he has also worked in general manager roles at the InterContinental Cali in Colombia, InterContinental São Paulo in Brazil and InterContinental Buenos Aires in Argentina.
