Hundreds of KFC branches remain closed amid chicken delivery chaos

Hundreds of KFC branches remain closed after delivery problems saw the fast food giant hit by chicken shortages at the end of last week.

Chicken fans were left disappointed through the weekend with more than 600 take-aways and restaurants closing their doors, cutting opening hours or reducing menus.

"We won’t compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours.

"We know that this might have inconvenienced some of you over the last few days, and disappointed you when you wanted your fried chicken fix - we’re really sorry about that.

"Shout out to our restaurant teams who are working flat out to get us back up and running again."

The GMB trade union has said it warned KFC against changing its distribution network from Bidvest to DHL, a move that came into force on Tuesday.

Mick Rix, GMB national officer said: “We tried to warn KFC this decision would have consequences â€" well now the chickens are coming home to roost."

He continued: "KFC are left with hundreds of restaurants closed while DHL try and run the whole operation out of one distribution centre."
