Two hotel workers among those injured in stabbing at hotel in Glasgow city centre

Two hotel workers were among those injured in a stabbing at a hotel in Glasgow city centre on Friday.

Police officer David Whyte and three asylum seekers staying at the Park Inn hotel were also injured and treated in hospital. On Saturday police confirmed all six remained in hospital, with one in a critical but stable condition.

Badreddin Abadlla Adam, a 28-year-old asylum seeker from Sudan, was shot dead by armed police, who had been called to the Radisson hotel in West George Street.

In a statement constable Whyte said: “The incident myself and colleagues faced in West George Street was extremely challenging. The scene we were confronted with is something I will never forget.

“As the first responders on scene, myself and my colleague did what all police officers are trained for to save lives.

“I would like to thank my colleagues who put themselves in harm’s way to contain this incident and assist with the vital treatment given to myself and others at the scene by other emergency services.

“Despite suffering serious injuries myself, I know that the swift actions of colleagues saved lives and prevented a far more serious incident.”

First minister Nicola Sturgeon has said: “The reports from Glasgow city centre are truly dreadful. My thoughts are with everyone involved.”
