The brand said it was looking to “challenge the big guys” with its smashburger concept.
Honest Burgers has opened the first site of its spin-off restaurant Smash + Grab in London.
The group has converted its Liverpool Street site to the new smashburger concept, which launched today (11 December).
Smash + Grab serves a menu of seven burgers, including a Smash Cheese (£6.95), Smash Bacon (£7.50), Smash Plant (£8.95) and BBQ Chicken (£8.95).
The wider menu includes chicken tenders (from £4.50), loaded or rosemary chips (from £3.25), milkshakes (from £4.95) and a range of soft drinks and beers.
It has launched with the backing of a crowdfunding campaign that raised £2.7m in 2023. At the time, Honest Burgers said it was looking to “challenge the big guys” with its smashburger, which cooks in less than two minutes.
Unlike regular burgers where thick patties are formed and fried, smashburger patties are ‘smashed’ onto a hot grill, which supposedly gives them a crispier, caramelised crust.
The Smash + Grab launch comes amid a period of expansion for Honest Burgers, which was founded in Brighton in 2009 and has grown to 39 UK restaurants. The group is looking to quadruple the size of its business by 2030 and said sales rose 11% in the first half of the year, with revenue hitting £30m.
Smash + Grab is not the first spin-off concept for Honest Burgers. The group launched vegan burger brand V Honest in 2022, but it converted back to the main brand after less than a year.
