Hilton is to host a free workshop to support businesses in creating an inclusive workplace for team members with a learning disability.
The event will take place at the Hilton London Metropole on 25 October and is open to any operator interested in embracing inclusive recruitment practices.
Held in partnership with the Down’s Syndrome Association and Aurora Foxes, a training hotel in Minehead that specialises in educating people with learning disabilities, the morning workshop will empower businesses to embrace inclusivity and overcome the perceived barriers to hiring a team member with a learning disability.
Almost nine in 10 (89%) of people with a learning disability in the UK have experienced difficulties finding a job, according to a survey commissioned by Hilton earlier this year to mark Learning Disability Week.
Of those that have hired someone with a learning disability 89% said that they met or exceeded expectations. The benefits also extend beyond job performance, with 62% of employers reporting greater empathy among their workforce and 48% noting stronger team bonds.
The Breaking Barriers: Supporting People with Learning Disabilities to Enter the Workplace event aims to provide more opportunities to partner employers with loyal employees.
It will set out how to adapt hiring processes to instil confidence in applicants with a learning disability as well as explaining how to carve out relevant roles and put reasonable adjustments in place to ensure new recruits with learning disabilities gain the most from their employment.
