Harts Group to launch two restaurants and wine bar at Coal Drops Yard

Harts Group, the company behind Barrafina, Quo Vadis and El Pastor, has announced that it is to open two restaurants and a wine bar at the new Coal Drops Yard retail quarter in London's King's Cross.

The company, led by brothers Sam and James Hart and Crispin Somerville, revealed last week that it planned to launch a £750,000 crowdfunding campaign to open a 34-cover Barrafina restaurant, with a private dining room for 20 and additional al fresco seating for 60 covers at the new canal-side retail quarter in autumn.

It has now been confirmed that Casa Pastor, a Mexican ‘big sister' to El Pastor in Borough Market, and The Drop wine bar will also open alongside the Barrafina site.

Coal Drops Yard is a former Victorian coal store that has been regenerated by Heatherwick Studio. It combines a contemporary design with the surviving grand brick viaducts, ironwork and cobbled streets.

Sam Hart said: "This is an incredibly exciting project for Harts Group. When we saw the site plans we immediately fell in love with Coal Drops and since then we have been relentlessly planning how to create amazing places specific to the area.

"We are progressing these with enthusiasm and look forward to opening in October."

Harts Group is using crowdfunding platform Crowdcube to raise the equity for the new Barrafina, offering experiential rewards for investors on top of the financial stake. Investments start from £10.

The Harts Group of restaurants comprises five London outlets: three Barrafina sites, Quo Vadis in Soho and and the El Pastor taqueria in Borough Market.
