Guy Owen to join Cornwall's St Enodoc hotel as executive chef

Guy Owen has verified he will be joining the St Enodoc Hotel in Rock, Cornwall as executive chef from 20 January 2020.

Owen also told The Caterer that the St Enodoc hotel will undergo redecoration prior to the re-launch of a fine-dining restaurant in the Spring of 2020.

The hotel, which is under the new management of James and Lucy Strachan will commence its renovations from the 16-27 December. It will be open for New Year celebrations and then close from the 2 January until early February 2020. St Enodoc's Brasserie will be the first of the refurbished restaurants to open at that time.

Lucy Strachan is the daughter of Rob and Carol Barkwell, the owners of the St Enodoc hotel.

James Strachan, hotel manager says: “We are hugely excited about Guy joining our team here at the St Enodoc. This is a new era for the hotel and the investment in Guy demonstrates our commitment to put the hotel back on the map for dining experiences. With his culinary expertise and focus on sustainability his vision is perfectly aligned with ours. Guy’s focus will be on locally sourced ingredients, Cornish fish and produce from the family farm in Devon.”

Owen unofficially announced his new role at a chef’s dinner at the Seafood Restaurant in Padstow on Monday evening and mentioned his new employers on Twitter, creating, he said: “a bit of a melt-down in my inbox!”

Owen announced his departure as head chef of the Idle Rocks, in St Mawes, Cornwall, in October this year after four and a half years in the role. Winning numerous awards during his tenure including the Seafood Restaurant of the Year competition, run by The Caterer and Seafish in 2018.

The Idle Rocks named Dorian Janmaat as its new head chef in November 2019. Janmaat joined the Idle Rocks after eight years at Raymond Blanc’s two Michelin-starred Le Manoir aux Quat‘Saisons – the final three of which he spent as head chef.
