Greene King to launch new pub concept Seared in 2024

Greene King is to launch the first pub under its new concept, Seared, offering global dishes such as patatas bravas and jerk chicken.

The Castle in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire, will open on 8 January following a three-month renovation costing over £1m.

Greene King, which runs more than 1,600 pubs, restaurants and hotels nationwide under brands including Hungry Horse and Farmhouse Inns, said the new concept had been created to cater to a rise in demand for “new flavours and world cuisines”.

Dishes will include pulled pork tacos with a hot Nashville-style sauce (£5.45); a Turkish-inspired grilled vegetable salad with halloumi (£11.95); a chicken tikka burger (£10.95); and food platters (£24.95) inspired by different regions including the Caribbean, South America, and the Middle East.

A small number of British classics such as fish and chips (£7.95) and gammon, egg and chips (£7.95) will remain on the menu.

Natalia Perez, brand director at Greene King, said: “We’re dedicated to bringing new and exciting experiences to our guests all over the country, and we can’t wait to launch our latest concept, Seared, at the Castle in January.

“Our guests can expect vibrant interiors and globally inspired, affordable dishes that pair perfectly with new international draught lagers, cocktails and soft drinks.”

Greene King confirmed in November that seafood restaurant brand Loch Fyne, which it bought for £68m in 2007, had closed the last of its restaurants and was “no longer a core part” of its portfolio.
