Green light for treehouse suites at Ramside

Plans to develop six luxury treehouse suites in the ground of Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa near Carrville in County Durham have been given the go ahead.

Durham County Council has granted planning permission to the four-AA-silver-star, 128-bedroom hotel for the multimillion-pound scheme, which will see the first three treehouses opening with views over the 18th fairway and green of the Prince Bishops golf course in June 2018.

Built on stilts, each treehouse will feature two bedrooms, a living room and bathroom with a free-standing copper bath.

John Adamson, owner of Ramside, said the development will be "unlike anything else" in the locality.

The hotel is part of Ramside Estates, a third-generation family business which also owns the four-AA-star, 51-bedroom Hardwick Hall hotel near Sedgefield, and the 19-bedroom Bowburn Hall hotel, both in Durham.

Ramside is not the first hotel to develop treehouse suites. Chewton Glen in New Milton, Hampshire has just opened two additional suites at the cost of £1.5m to the add to the 12 it launched four years ago, with great success. The Deer House Country House Hotel, near Honiton, Devon, also has a thatched treehouse suite.
