Two people injured after exterior of Britannia hotel falls on coach

Two people were taken to hospital with head injuries after part of the exterior of a Britannia Hotels property in Folkestone collapsed earlier this week.

Chunks of debris from the frontage of the Grand Burstin hotel fell on to a Just Go Holidays coach that was parked outside the site on Monday (21 November).

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said two people had been hit by falling rendering following high winds.

Emergency services attended the scene and the coach driver and one passenger were taken to hospital with injuries. They were both discharged later that evening.

The coach was taking passengers on a five-day ‘Turkey and Tinsel’ holiday around Folkestone and Canterbury.

Just Go Holidays said a replacement coach and driver were arranged so customers could continue with their holiday while the injured passenger returned home the following day.

“The safety of our guests is of paramount importance, and we continue to liaise with the hotel over this incident,” a Just Go Holidays spokesperson said.

Emergency services have been called to several other incidents at Britannia-operated hotels this year. In September 120 guests were evacuated following a fire at the Trecarn hotel in Torquay, while police were called after the body of a 21-year-old was found at the Adelphi hotel in Liverpool. The death was ruled as accidental.

Which?’s annual survey ranked Britannia as the UK’s worst hotel chain for the tenth year in a row earlier this month.

Britannia Hotels has been contacted for comment.
