Driving UK investment, clean energy, improving transport, and creating jobs are all on Labour’s agenda.
The new government is to set out its plans to “prioritise growth” in the King’s Speech on Wednesday (17 July).
Departments are working on more than 35 bills Labour said would deliver “an ambitious parliamentary session”.
This will include giving more power to the Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR) to ensure future Budgets and fiscal announcements are “properly scrutinised”.
Other plans include the creation of a National Wealth Fund to drive investment in the UK, boosting clean energy usage by 2030, pledges to build more houses, improve transport and create jobs.
While there was no specific mention of policies targeting hospitality in a government announcement, Labour’s manifesto pledged to introduce laws around workers’ rights in the first 100 days in office.
This could include its policy of scrapping difference age bands on the minimum wage, meaning staff under the age of 18 could see their hourly rate rise, and curbing the use of zero-hour contracts.
Prime minister Keir Starmer said: “From energy, to planning, to unbreakable fiscal rules, my government is serious about delivering the stability that is going to turbo charge growth that will create wealth in every corner of the UK.
“The task of national renewal will not be easy, and this is just the down payment on our plans for the next five years, but the legislation set out at the King’s Speech will build on the momentum of our first days in office and make a difference to the lives of working people.”
What could Labour’s election win mean for hospitality?
