Gourmet Burger Kitchen sees like-for-like growth following 'operational improvements'

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) saw like-for-like sales increase by 8.6% in the six months to 25 August 2019 following “operational improvements” to the business.

Remedial actions were taken after GBK completed a Company Voluntary Arrangement last December that saw the closure of 24 sites.

When the closed sites were taken into account, UK-wide sales decreased by 12.5% (2018: 6.8%), parent company Famous Brands reported in a voluntary trading update.

It said: “As anticipated, GBK continued to benefit from the extensive range of operational improvements implemented, together with the CVA restructuring programme completed over the past year.”

South Africa-based Famous Brands also owns burger chain Wimpy but did not provide an update on its trading performance.
