Gleneagles GM Paul Heery departs for Adare Manor in Ireland

Former Gleneagles hotel general manager Paul Heery has departed the Perthshire property for Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland.

A replacement has not yet been appointed at the five red-AA-star, 232-bedroom Gleneagles, which recently completed a multi-million pound refurbishment including a £1.1m investment in its bedrooms.

Irish-born Heery spent three years at Gleneagles, where he was responsible for all hotel operations on the private estate. He took over from Bernard Murphy, who became managing director of the resort; the first time in around 30 years a general manager was appointed having never worked at Gleneagles before.

Prior to this, Heery was hotel operations manager at the Connaught hotel in London and deputy general manager at the Merrion hotel in Dublin. He has also held managerial positions at Montreux Palace in Switzerland and Ritz-Carlton hotels in San Francisco, New York, and Georgetown.

Adare Manor closed its doors in January 2016 to undergo renovation, and will debut its new look in late autumn this year. The expansion will include a new 42-bedroom wing, taking the total number of bedrooms to 104, a ballroom with capacity for 350 guests, a La Mer spa and a complete revamp of the golf clubhouse and redesign of the golf course by Tom Fazio.

Heery said: "I am delighted and honoured to be taking over as general manager of such an iconic and celebrated property. With the recent extensive renovations nearly completed, I look forward to leading the wonderful opportunity of further elevating the guest experience and creating lasting memories at Adare Manor in my native Ireland."

Adare Manor chief executive Colm Hannon added: "Paul's experience in the luxury travel industry both globally and at other iconic properties, alongside his understanding of Ireland, will be extremely valuable as we move onto the new chapter at Adare Manor. We are very excited to welcome Paul into his position."
