Friars Carse country house hotel in Dumfries on market for £1.85m

A 21-bedroom hotel in Dumfries which was once used as a convalescent home and guest house for Post Office staff has been put on the market with a price tag of £1.85m.

Located in Auldgirth within a 30-acre salmon fishing estate on the banks of the River Nith, the Friars Carse country house hotel is being sold by the Post Office Fellowship of Remembrance (POFR).

The building, which dates back to the 18th century, is one of two hotels - alongside the Dumbleton Hall hotel, near Evesham, Worcestershire - owned by the POFR and operated under its Classic Hotels brand. It was bought by the POFR in 1938 and operated as a memorial to men and women who died in the two World Wars before being turned into a commercial hotel operation.

The annual turnover of the property to March 2018 was nearly £1m (net).

Planning permission has been granted to convert part of the stable courtyard into three additional bedrooms.

Friars Case is being marketed by Colliers International.
