Freemasons secures star line-up for second ‘War of the Roses'

Chefs from Lancashire and Yorkshire are set to fight it out in the kitchen of Freemasons at Wiswell, as the restaurant launches its ‘War of the Roses' culinary battle for the second year running.

Chef-patron Steven Smith will take the field for Lancashire for this year's contest, alongside Paul Askew, chef director of London Carriage Works and new restaurant the Art School.

They will compete against chef James Mackenzie from the Michelin-starred Pipe and Glass and Charlie Lakin from the Marquis at Alkham, who are both representing Yorkshire.

Guests will be treated to a six-course meal, with each chef cooking one course individually, before pairing up to do a joint course with their teammate. Score cards will be handed out at the beginning of the evening, outlining each dish, with points given for each course.

Tickets for the evening are £60 or £90 with a wine package included. Go to www.freemasonsatwiswell.com or call 01254 822 218 for more details.

Last year saw Smith represent Lancashire, and Tim Bilton from the Spiced Pear in Hepworth represent Yorkshire, with Lancashire judged to be the winner.
