Francois-Xavier Schoeffer has been appointed general manager of 1 Hotel Mayfair, the sustainable luxury brand’s UK debut set to open this summer.
Schoeffer will work alongside Robert Koren, who was last month appointed senior vice president and area managing director of Europe, the Middle East and Asia to launch SH Hotels & Resorts’ European corporate office as the company looks to accelerate growth across the region.
Starting his career at Hotel Martinez in Cannes, France, in 1997, Schoeffer’s recent roles included general manager of the Doyle Collection’s Kensington hotel in London, Hôtel Lutetia in Paris, and hotel manager at Hotel Café Royal on Regent Street.
He said: “I am honoured to have been appointed as the General Manager of 1 Hotel Mayfair and to be part of the brand’s EU expansion. I look forward to growing our team at London’s first mission-driven sustainable luxury hotel.”
Raul Leal, chief executive of SH Hotels & Resorts, which operates the 1 Hotels brand, added: “We are very excited to welcome Francois-Xavier to SH Hotels & Resorts. With his wealth of central London experience and knowledge, we are confident that he will drive the property in the right direction. We look forward to watching Francois-Xavier grow his team and maximise their potential, offering the best possible service.”
The hotel is set to be a nine-storey hotel, housing 181 guest rooms and suites, Dovetale restaurant by chef Tom Sellers, a coffee shop and bar, as well as a fitness centre and Bamford Wellness Spa.
US-based SH Hotels & Resorts is an affiliate of private investment firm Starwood Capital Group and operates the 1 Hotels brand, which launched in 2015 with properties in South Beach and Manhattan and now includes nine properties as well as further projects in development in London, Cabo San Lucas, Paris, Elounda Hills (Crete), Austin, Copenhagen, Riyadh and Melbourne. Its brands also include Baccarat Hotels & Resorts and Treehouse Hotels, which opened in London in 2019.
