Former Northern Powerhouse Developments Queens hotel in Llandudno sold

The Queens hotel in Llandudno, formerly owned by Northern Powerhouse Developments, has been sold to an undisclosed buyer prior to auction.

The Grade II-listed, 68-bedroom property was due to be auctioned by Allsop Auctions last week for a reported guide price of £200,000-250,000.

Northern Powerhouse Developments (NPD) acquired the property in 2016 off a guide price of £3m from the Devoy family. At the time, the property development company said its intention was to undertake a three-year renovation of the hotel, which was built in 1854.

However, NPD's hotels fell into administration in 2019 and were closed and/or put up for sale. NPD founder Gavin Woodhouse is under investigation by the Serious Fraud Office.

Of NPD’s former hotel portfolio, a new team has been given conditional planning approval to take forward the Afan Valley leisure resort project and the Esplanade hotel in Scarborough was acquired by Daish's Holidays.

The Imperial Crown is undergoing refurbishment while the Old Golf Course in Huddersfield is reported to have been sold and Everbright Hotels is reported to have bought the Belmont and Llandudno Bay hotels last year. Several further properties are understood to be under offer.

Meanwhile, Gilsland Hall in Cumbria is to undergo an extensive refurbishment to transform it from a three- to a five-star property following its acquisition by property investment company Stratsmore Holdings.
