Pictured: first look at Buxton Crescent hotel opening next week

On 1 October the Buxton Crescent hotel in Derbyshire will open its doors following a £70m refurbishment of the Grade I-listed Georgian building.

The 81-bedroom property will be the first UK property from Ensana Hotels, Europe’s largest health spa operator. The site has finally been transformed into a hotel after plans were originally announced 16 years ago.

The Crescent was designed by John Carr and constructed in the 1780s and was the centrepiece of the fifth Duke of Devonshire's plans to establish Buxton as a fashionable Georgian spa town.

The hotel will have three pools: a refurbished Victorian thermal pool offering heated and untreated mineral waters, a relaxation pool, and an indoor-outdoor rooftop pool. It will also have eight treatment rooms. The renovation has been financially supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund among other stakeholders.

Rates will start from £125 per night based on two people sharing an attic room on a B&B basis.

Ensana, which was launched in 2019, manages 26 spa hotels across the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
