Fazenda Birmingham to reopen after deal struck with landlord

Fazenda’s Birmingham restaurant is to reopen after its new owners agreed a deal with the landlord.

The site’s closure was announced in March after the South American restaurant chain was bought out of administration by Southern Wind Group.

This secured the future of its Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh and Liverpool restaurants, but its Birmingham site and Picanha Chester restaurant were set to close. Now the Colmore Row venue is due to reopen on 19 May, securing 43 jobs.

Fazenda’s managing director Tomas Maunier previously promised the brand would return to Birmingham after initially failing to reach an agreement with the landlord.

“Our priority as a business has been to save as many jobs as possible, so today is a day of huge celebration – one of those moments that makes you really happy as a business leader,” said Maunier.

“Before the pandemic hit, the restaurant was trading exceptionally well and the team we have built has made a big impression on the people of Birmingham.”

A total of 286 jobs have now been saved by Southern Wind Group's takeover of Fazenda.
