Ennismore to launch Gleneagles club in Edinburgh

The owner of Gleneagles is to launch a club in a former bank building in Edinburgh as an extension of the iconic sporting estate in Auchterarder, Perthshire.

Ennismore's announcement regarding the expansion of Gleneagles into the Scottish capital comes just over a week after the hospitality developer and operator said that it had applied for planning permission to open a club in a Grade I-listed, Georgian building in London's Mayfair.

The Edinburgh outpost of Gleneagles will be located in a Grade A, former Bank of Scotland flagship branch on St Andrews Square. It will offer bars, lounges, restaurants, some bedrooms, retail and events spaces which will "celebrate the traditions and glamour of country life".

Sharan Pasricha, founder and chief executive of Ennismore, described the acquisition as "an exciting time" for Gleneagles as the company looks to expand the brand "through the development of another iconic building in a key Scottish city".

He added: "We will be working with the relevant local authorities, residents and stakeholders as we shape our plans but we intend to invest a considerable sum to bring this building back to life whilst, like Gleneagles, respecting its incredible history and original features."

The building was originally developed on behalf of the British Linen Bank in 1846. It is located within the New Town Conservation Area and is part of the Edinburgh World Heritage Site.

Ennismore acquired the five-red-AA-star, 232-bedroom Gleneagles in 2015 for around £200m and has since launched a multimillion refurbishment of the resort.

The company is also the owner of lifestyle brand the Hoxton, which has four hotels in London (Shoreditch and Holborn), Amsterdam and Paris, and is in the process of developing NoCo, a new brand which will operate at a lower price point than the Hoxton with rates at under £100 per night.
