Domino’s delivers 5,000 new jobs

Domino’s Pizza is to create 5,000 new jobs and over 1,000 Kickstart placements for young people as it gears up for the busy festive period.

The takeaway chain, which has 1,184 sites in the UK and Ireland, said the new roles include pizza chefs, customer service staff and delivery drivers.

These are in addition to the 6,000 jobs Domino’s has created since the start of the coronavirus pandemic this year.

The Kickstart positions, part of a government-funded drive to boost jobs for under-25s, will be available in England, Scotland and Wales. Candidates will be paid in-line with current store levels and will be encouraged to apply for permanent roles at the end of the six-month placement.

Eighty per cent of store managers started their careers as delivery drivers or pizza chefs, Domino’s said.

The pizza chain was able to keep its sites open for delivery during lockdown and saw a 5.5% rise in total sales for the six months to 28 June.

It has since simplified its menu and resumed contact-free collection in-store.

Dominic Paul, Domino’s Pizza Group CEO, said: “It was a privilege to keep our stores open during Covid-19 and to now be in a position to offer thousands more people the opportunity to become a Domino’s team member.

“We’re also delighted to have applied to support the Government’s Kickstart scheme, offering young people the chance to get back into work and to build lifelong skills through our training programmes.

“Together, these over 6,000 new roles will help Domino’s continue to safely serve our local communities as we head towards the busy festive period.”

Domino’s is run in the UK and Ireland under license from its US parent and employs over 35,000 people.

The UK's first Domino's store opened in Luton in 1985.
