De Vere hotel group signs up for Room to Reward charity to honour ‘hidden heroes'

The De Vere hotel group has partnered with hospitality Room to Reward to offer "hidden heroes" unsold rooms to honour their contribution to society.

The scheme, established by Nicolas J Roach of Harbour Hotels in 2015, hands rooms over to charitable organisations and volunteer groups to offer workers breaks at some of the UK's top hotels. In 2017 the charity was praised by Prime Minister Theresa May for "recognising the unsung volunteers across the UK who are making exceptional commitments to charities".

De Vere's inclusion in the scheme will open up their 23-strong portfolio of country estate and contemporary hotels to deserving beneficiaries. The charity's director Adam Terpening said: "We are absolutely thrilled to welcome De Vere to the Room to Reward journey. Their wonderful support will give the inspirational volunteers nominated to us an amazing selection of hotels to choose from."

Other hotels among the 350 to have worked with the charity include sites operated by Elite Hotels, Brook Hotels, New Forest Hotels, Harbour Hotels, Greenclose Hotels, Dalhousie Castle in Edinburgh and St Ermin's hotel in London. In total the industry has pledged more than £350,000 of breaks to more than 500 charity sector workers.

Gail Hunter, group human resources director for De Vere, said: "We are very proud to join Room to Reward. It's a brilliant initiative that enables us to recognise the extraordinary dedication of these wonderful volunteers and give back just a bit of the time they have selflessly dedicated to helping others."
