D&D London's Haugen restaurant to open in London's Stratford this year

D&D London has revealed that its upcoming restaurant in London’s Stratford will be named Haugen and is due to open in September.

The project, first announced in February 2020, will occupy a new wooden structure at the gateway to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Haugen will feature an all-day brasserie, restaurant, deli, outdoor terrace and rooftop bar, and serve dishes inspired by Alpine dining.

It is named after Anders Haugen, who should have won America’s first Olympic skiing medal in 1924, but only received the award in 1974 due to a scoring error.

The restaurant will seat a total of 544 covers, 100 of which will be outdoors on a ground floor terrace, with the reminder in a wraparound dining space on the first floor.

D&D London chairman and chief executive Des Gunewardena said: “When you see Haugen coming out of Stratford station on the way to the Olympic Park, it will certainly grab your attention.

“For those Londoners who love their Alpine rostis and tartiflettes this will be a must-go restaurant. But for those who prefer to maintain their Olympian body shapes there will be plenty of tasty options too.”

The wooden structure has been created by Acme, and hospitality design studio Afroditi Krassa will oversee the interior design, drawing inspiration from Alpine chalets.

D&D London runs 43 restaurants and bars and one hotel in London, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Paris and New York. It was founded by Gunewardena and David Loewi in 2006.
