Winding up petition against Danesfield House dismissed after tax bill paid

The four-silver-AA-star Danesfield House in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, has had a winding up petition dismissed in London’s High Court after settling a debt with the taxman.

Danesfield House Hotel Ltd, which operates the hotel had earlier been given extra time by the High Court to settle the undisclosed tax debt due to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

Yesterday, Judge Mark Mullen was told by HMRC's barrister that the debt had been paid and to dismiss the tax authority's winding-up petition.

The judge agreed and dismissed the petition.

Danesfield House, located within a 65-acre estate, was built as a private family home in 1901. After being requisitioned by the Royal Air Force during World War Two, it was sold to Carnation Foods to be used as its corporate headquarters in 1977. The property was transformed into a luxury country house hotel in 1991.

Alex Robertson, who joined the hotel as general manager in March 2019, told The Caterer after the first hearing: "The issue came about after a mistake we made last year,. Finalising the amount to be paid has been part of the cause of the delay."
