Dakota Deluxe Manchester to open in 2019

Work has started on the development of a £25m, 137-bedroom Dakota Deluxe hotel in Manchester from the partnership between former Hotelier of the Year Ken McCulloch and Leeds-based Evans Property Group.

It will be the fifth hotel for the Dakota Group and the third in the luxury Dakota Deluxe brand, alongside properties in Glasgow and Leeds. Two further hotels operate under the more accessible Dakota brand in South Queensferry, Edinburgh, and Eurocentral, on the outskirts of Glasgow.

Located within a new £300m mixed-use scheme on Ducie Street close to Piccadilly Station, the Manchester hotel will part of Dakota Group's plan to open properties in all major UK cities within five years. Evans acquired the site from Town Centre Securities.

Set to open in spring 2019, the hotel will include 20 suites including a 1,000sq ft plus penthouse with roof top garden terrace and sauna, which is thought will become one of the largest hotel suites in Manchester.

Food and beverage will be focused on the 104-seat Dakota Bar & Grill with al fresco dining, alongside a 75-cover bar and Champagne room.

Alan Syers, portfolio director at Evans Property Group, said that the Dakota Deluxe hotels in Glasgow, which opened in April 2016, and Leeds, launched in April this year, have both performed "exceptionally well".

He added: "The expansion of the boutique hotel brand enables us to bring a new offering to the Manchester hotel leisure market with an experience unlike any other in the city. Manchester was always a priority city for the brand and we are looking forward to seeing the hotel come to life."

Ken McCulloch was named Hotelier of the Year in 1993 for his creation of One Devonshire Gardens in Glasgow. The following year he launched the Malmaison brand, which he went on to sell 10 years later.
