Crate Brewery's crowdfunding campaign has nearly hit the halfway mark just over one week after being launched, with plans to bring Douglas McMaster's zero-waste Brighton restaurant concept Silo to London.
The brewery has so far raised £232,310 of a target of £500,000 for a major refurbishment of the brewery's home in Hackney Wick's White Building, with 21 days left to hit their target on Crowdcube.
Upstairs, the team will develop a new restaurant space for the sustainability-focused Silo concept, which already operates as a restaurant in Brighton, as well as the creation of an experimental brewery, an affordable work space, an extended ground floor bar and an event space.
Crate was launched in 2012 by siblings Tom and Jess Seaton and friend Neil Hinchley. Based in the White Building, an ex-print factory, Crate began its life as a small microbrewery, bar and pizza restaurant.
