Controversial Sheffield burger restaurant closes

A controversial Sheffield restaurant that was forced to apologise over offensively named burgers has closed.

Randy's Hardcore Burgers opened in the West One development in the city at the end of October. It was closed this week by landlord Devonshire Green (Commercial Properties) Limited, which cited non-payment of rent.

But Voip Communications International Limited, the company named in landlord Devonshire Green's 4 December legal notice, had already gone into involuntary liquidation.

The company, previously known as Kerbedge Restaurants until a name change at the end of July, received a court order to wind up on 15 November following a petition from drinks wholesaler Matthew Clark dated 1 September.

The winding up order comes after a tumultuous period for the restaurant. It had previously been forced to apologise amid complaints about its menu, which featured a number of burgers with offensive names.

These included "Ca$ting C0uch", "fake taxi", and the "Weinstein", named after the shamed Hollywood producer accused of sexual assault by more than 70 women.

Sheffield Council said the restaurants burger names propagated a "toxic culture" and had warned action would be taken if changes weren't made.

It is understood that all three Randy's Hardcore Burger sites - two in Manchester and one in Sheffield - have closed.

Devonshire Green was contacted for comment. No one at Voip Communications International Limited could be reached.
