Six of the eight restaurants to lose their stars have closed their doors in the last year
Jason Atherton’s City Social in the City of London has lost its star in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2025.
Last year marked a huge 12 months for the chef and restaurateur who opened four restaurants, including Row on 5 which went straight into the guide with one star at the awards ceremony on Monday night.
The chef also closed his Pollen Street Social restaurant in early 2024 after 14 years. At the time Atherton said: “The London dining scene is fast-paced and diners are looking for something a little different.”
The other restaurant to lose its star while remaining open in this year’s guide was fine dining Chinese restaurant Kai in London’s Mayfair, which first won a star in 2009.
Six of the eight restaurants to lose their stars have closed their doors in the last year, following another difficult year for the industry. No two or three-star restaurants lost stars at this year’s awards.
